Course Overview

This program comprises of two units of competency.

The purpose of this program is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to respond in emergency and life-threatening situations in accordance with ARC Guidelines, as well as to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

You must:

  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine your suitability for the course and your support needs.

Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills, for example, to be able to read the training materials and write assessment tasks. This will be tested through a LLN assessment as part of the enrolment process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course. This will be tested through the course entry process and an online assessment, for which you will be sent a link.

Course Duration

This course is offered through self-paced study and classroom training. The total time commitment is 10  hours of self-paced study prior to the completion of 2 days of classroom training and assessment.

Class sessions are planned to ensure that students have a mixture of practical and theoretical components and those classes cater for a wide variety of learning styles.  Additionally, workplace practices and environments are simulated and used to conduct skills based assessments in accordance with unit requirements.

This qualification is offered on the following days and times:

Saturdays 9 am to 5.30 pm

This course will be delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting which includes the simulation of workplace based environment.

Career Outcomes

The units HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID003 Provide first aid is included in many qualifications within Training Packages.  Therefore, a statement of attainment for these units can be used as credit for a range of qualifications.

Enrolment & Orientation

Upon acceptance of a student’s application for enrolment, a letter of offer, as well as a written agreement and tax invoice for remaining fees, will be forwarded to students. Students will need to read all provided information as it will provide all necessary information about the course of study.  An enrolment confirmation will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer and written agreement are received.

Additional Support

All students will be provided with a range of learning support options and resources to help them achieve competency.  This includes:

  • Academic and personal support.
  • Referral to external support services.

Training Arrangement

Students are required to attend a class of 8 hours and complete 10 hours of self-paced study prior to the class. Timetable information will be provided in the student’s Letter of Offer and Student agreement.

The self-paced study will involve reviewing readings specified in the self-paced workbook and then completing written questions. On enrolment, you will be provided with the self-paced workbook that needs to be completed.  Your trainer/assessor will contact you two weeks prior to course commencement to check that you are ready to be assessed on the self-paced component which you must then complete at least one week prior to the face to face training.  You will need to successfully complete this component before attending the face to face training.  Your assessment will be marked and your assessor will advise within 2 working days as to whether you have been successful. If not, your assessor will discuss the re-assessment process with you.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment methods used for this qualification will provide a range of ways for individuals to demonstrate that they have met the required outcomes including:

  • Questioning (oral or written)
  • Scenarios
  • Observations

At the beginning of each unit, trainers will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Enrolment fee: $50 (non-refundable to be paid on application)
